This is something that becomes pretty obvious as soon as you press play on any of her videos. Whether she’s mocking her own gender (see ‘Things I Don’t Understand AboutGirls’) or marvelling at the opposite sex, she is guaranteed to make you laugh. Part of her humour is her complete lack of shame. From showing off her interesting collection of dance moves, to making song about why she hates being a grown up, it’s almost as if she does everything you wish you could do without being shunned by society.
Even when she tries to look bad (see ‘Drunk Makeup Tutorial’), her pretty face and ripped body means she fails miserably. In case you haven’t noticed, she is the subject of my gigantic girl crush. Watching her videos will either make you cry the next time you look in the mirror or cry at the realisation she will never be yours – depending on your gender/sexual orientation. Fear not, Jenna Marbles offers a helping hand in her video ‘How to trick people into thinking you’re good looking’. While the advice given may be followed at your peril, you will certainly be entertained.
You weren’t expecting that one, were you? Ms Marbles beats the odds of a typical former go-go dancer (you read that correctly) and has a Masters degree in Sports Psychology and Counselling from Boston University. She can also hold up an intelligent conversation. While she spends most of her time making innuendos, she may sometimes dedicate a video to a serious topic such as women’s rights. Both educational and hilarious – how can you possibly turn that down?
In fact, sometimes she’s a bit too honest. Part of the reason that Jenna Marbles is so funny is that everything she says is true. You’ll find yourself laughing in agreement with one of her many rants and, what’s more, you may actually learn something about yourself. A personal eye-opener was ‘White Girls At The Club’. I warn you – it may change the way you walk in to a club for the rest of your life. Most likely that change will be to the benefit of humankind, and humankind will have Jenna to thank.
She loves animals
This becomes obvious pretty much from the word go. You may find her use of baby talk with her dogs either hilarious or unbearable, but, either way, it is strangely addictive. Before you know it, you’ll be petting the nearest living and doing your best ‘Hi Spiderman!’ impression. Maybe just make sure no one else is around when you try that.
Jenna is not a woman to leave you hanging. Every Wednesday (Thursday in Irish time) without fail, a new video is added to her catalogue of mishaps and misadventures. Think of her as some sort of life coach, adding some much needed stability to your life on a weekly basis.
If you haven’t looked up Jenna Marbles by now, what are you doing? Stop reading this. Go. Now. You can thank me later. It’s not difficult to guess what I’ll be watching next Thursday…
