Sex can often make or break a relationship. And with the unprecedented times we’re in (God that phrase is so overused), peoples sex lives can be put under a similarly unprecedented amount of strain. If your sex life, like so many others, has been impacted by the very unsexy global pandemic, then Jack Wrixon is here to help.

If you’re looking to get your mojo back, whether you’re in a relationship or not, then this piece is for you.

  • Sex toys

Let’s face it. Sex toys can be quite an intimidating concept, no matter what type of toy it is. But they are undeniably one of the easiest ways to add a little bit of spice to your bedroom activities, even if it’s just you. Many online retailers offer discreet packaging for their products, so if you were worried about your parents questioning why a fleshlight or a comically shaped dildo has arrived with your name on it, then you’re safe. If you do decide to indulge in a toy, then it’s important to do your research. Shop around and find different prices that suit your budget, but also find a toy that speaks to you sexually. There is no point buying a ten-inch ribbed wand if you don’t like penetration, that’s just a waste of money. It’s also important to shop Irish, especially now that we’re living in the age of Brexit. None of the toys will have the Bord Bia quality mark, but there are many fantastic Irish retailers out there who are more than happy to provide help if you’re a first-time buyer or if you’re a seasoned expert.

  • Getting kinky with a partner

If you’re one of the lucky ones who gets to have their partner in their social bubble, then this section is for you. If you wanna try to spice things up in the bedroom, then the first step is communication. Discuss with your partner what you could try and see if they’re interested. There is no right way to change up your sex life, so don’t be afraid to share your wildest fantasies. For many people, this could mean just having some form of porn on in the background while you’re riding, and for others, this could mean consensually going for a full S&M fantasy like Rihanna. Maybe you decide to take my advice from the first section and start bringing in a sex toy into your fun times. Maybe you wanna see your boyfriend wear a maid outfit. Who knows. The bottom line, however, is if you or your partner doesn’t want to do something or doesn’t feel comfortable going down a certain route, back off. Sex is supposed to be enjoyable, and compromises can often make it more fun without creating an uncomfortable atmosphere.

  • Book porn

The reality is, most people watch porn. While this is a personal choice, it is important to be aware of how much pornographic media you consume, and one way to change it up is to indulge in porn in other forms. Remember when Fifty Shades of Grey got really big? That’s exactly what I’m talking about, except without the extremely problematic glamorization of abuse on the side of Christian Grey. Seriously. He is not the standard for literary smut, and dealin with your issues is easier than repressing them into borderline sexual abuse. The best thing about reading smut is that you don’t even have to buy the book to get off. There are so many websites out there that provide thousands of sex stories for free. While I can’t speak for the intricacies of the content or why a lot of these stories concern Harry Potter characters, I can vouch for the many, MANY fantastically written and extremely sexy stories that exist on the internet (For free!! You literally have no excuse!!! Open a private tab and go!!!).

And there you have it. Hopefully, these tips will help you improve how you get off, and if not then don’t stop looking for your niche. This is not an exhaustive list of ways to get spicy, and there are so many other great resources out there by both journalists and literal Sex experts. I jumped ship briefly to write this piece for the fantastic crew here in Motley, but if you wanna see more of me I can be found in every issue of the UCC Express in the Sexpress section of our Byline. I can also be reached at sexpress@uccexpress.ie, so if you have any queries or comments, feel free to reach out to me. Stay safe and stay sexy x
