Deputy Entertainment Editor Cathal Donovan O’Neill gives you the five best gigs of the week

Welcome back! Hope you’re getting on well this week. This week’s gig guide’s very much loaded towards the weekend but there’s some great, great stuff on offer. Cyprus Avenue has a lot of good acts in! Hope you enjoy this special Motley weekend gig guide – Nialler9, we’re comin’ for you.

Paddy Hanna

Cyprus Avenue, 7:30pm

If you’re looking for something a bit quirky, look no further than Dublin man Paddy Hanna. His lyrics slither and scream through themes of depression, everyday heartbreak and lust. His work’s a lil jazz, a lil alternative pop, a lil old-timey ballad and all utterly authentic.

Tickets for €10 at more info available on the events page

Le Boom

Cyprus Avenue, 7:30pm

Funky Meath synth-boppers Le Boom are playing Cyprus this Saturday. The band are coming off a great Electric Picnic gig to bless us with a night of jams that will stay in your head for months. Highly recommended. For more information on the band and their tour you can read their splash feature in Motley issue 1, out now! Check it out on our website here It’s a really good interview. All praise to The Dan.

The Divine Comedy

Cork Opera House, 8pm

Neil Hannon brings his witty and cutting brand of songwriting to the Cork Opera House. His new album, Office Politics, is a tour-de-force of catchy, fun songs about terrible people. The price is a bit steep, but this is gonna be a good one.

Tickets for €41 and €46 More info at

Hudson Taylor

Cyprus Avenue, 7:30pm

Hudson Taylor are a band I can’t help but love. Their music is upbeat folky pop and it’s so damn good at what it does you have to be swept along. It’s like a warm blanket! I saw the band playing support for The Script back in 2013 and, honestly, they were as good as the main act. A really energetic, fun group.

Angry Mom Collective returns with their second celebration of Cork’s female musicians. It’s another strong lineup this time around: Luunah’s an alternative-electronic artist whose talent for driving melodies and songwriting started strong and has only compounded with every new single.
