The UCC Security Team is to host a candlelight walk on campus in aid of Abbey’s Wish to Walk.

The charity is for 5 year-old Abbey McGeough Ballyvolane, Cork who was born with Hydrocephalus, a condition which affects her hips and prevents her from walking independently.

Abbey is a candidate for a Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, which will reduce spasticity but will cost approximately €60,000 with a further €40,000 needed for pre and post-op physio in Ireland.

The walk will begin from Honan Square at 5:30pm this Thursday at the 12th of December. Walkers will be treated to Christmas carols, tea and coffee from Áras na Mac Léinn and a special visit from Santa. Organisers Pat Cotter and Anthony O’Sullivan of UCC General Services are hopeful for a big turnout for this special cause.
