Wrestlemania XXX Preview

Luke Luby gives a preview of the upcoming Wrestlemania XXX.

The granddaddy of them all. The showcase of the immortals. Every year Wrestlemania comes and goes, bedazzling, infuriating and exciting fans in one of sports’ biggest events of the year, only rivalled by the Superbowl in terms of endearment. And this year, ‘Mania expects to be no different as we lead into the 30th annual show. Matches have been announced, feuds have been forged, and streaks have been made, ‘Mania XXX has been set up to be one of the best events WWE has thrown in years.

But how could it all play out? Here’s a rundown of each of the matches and how they could go.

Triple H vs Daniel Bryan

The Authority has been beating Bryan down again and again for the past number of months, but Bryan’s managed to keep coming back and giving as good as he can take it, so it’s no surprise that HHH has decided to take the situation into his own hands. And a recent announcement by HHH has seen to it that the winner will go on to star in the main event against Batista and Randy Orton in a triple threat match to decide the World Heavyweight Championship. Given that HHH is no longer a full-time wrestler and the fact that Bryan and Orton have history, it seems that Bryan could be in the running for the championship. HHH has always given his best at Mania, but Bryan has never been given too much of the limelight in the grandest stage of them all. All in all, it could turn out to be a pretty solid match.

John Cena vs Bray Wyatt

The ‘Eater of Worlds’ goes up against one of WWE’s top stars in what could be his career defining match. As far as ‘Mania’s matches go, this could be the most interesting. Wyatt has long been saying that Cena’s time has come, and that he needs to be removed from the roster as soon as possible, as, in Wyatt’s mind, Cena has been lying to and deceiving fans for years. Wyatt has also made this match a personal one after costing Cena the World Heavyweight Championship twice. Cena’s rage over this will obviously come into play, but Wyatt’s unpredictability, not to mention his ‘Family’, could turn the tide in a match that Wyatt desperately needs to win in order to further legitimize his character. Definitely a match not to take your eyes off of.

Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

With Ryback, Big E Langston, Mark Henry, Sheamus and Big Show being some of the stars of the match, this is certainly a fairly even match, size wise; but WWE veteran Christian could be the underdog that’s able to pull a win from the bag. With all the majority of WWE’s heavyweights taking part in the match, this won’t be a match where you can run off to the toilet; expect a number of close calls. Fandango, Ziggler, Axel, O’Neil and Sandow could all expect quick knock outs, but del Rio could be one to watch out for; however, it’s likely this match will go to Big Show, but with these competitors, and the fact that it’s a Battle Royal, anything is possible.

The Undertaker vs Brock Lesnar

Two behemoths among mere men, this is the match that tens of thousands will invariably be glued to their seats for, aside from the jumping off their seats with all the close calls. As epic as this match has the potential to be, it may live up to its potential. Taker’s health has been decreasing over the last number of years, and his body has taken severe beatings in his last number of Wrestlemanias. Lesnar, on the other hand, is still as big an animal as he ever was, and isn’t called ‘The Beast Incarnate’ for nothing, but ‘Taker simply may not be able to take the beating that Lesnar can toss out and still be able to extend the Streak. If Taker is at his best, however, this match may go down in the history books as one of the greatest ‘Mania matches ‘Taker has ever been a part of.

Randy Orton vs Batista vs TBD

While this could go any way depending on the results of the HHH/Daniel Bryan match, it’s sure to be an entertaining one, to say the least. If Bryan were to win his match, we could see HHH come to the aid of his former Evolution teammates and take Bryan out of competition. However, beating HHH and winning the championship in the same night would be the biggest F you that Bryan could give to the Authority. This won’t be easy though. Batista is just as good as he was before he left the company a number of years back, and Orton is the best he’s ever been. If Bryan enters the match, expect a number of close calls, and possibly some interference from the Authority, but if HHH is the third competitor, expect an all out brawl, a possible face turn from Orton and the slight chance of an interference from Bryan.

And how could we forget the night beforehand, where we see some of wrestling’s greatest stars inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame? For those who haven’t been paying attention, the inductees this year are: The Ultimate Warrior, Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts (and hopefully at least one snake), Lita, the late William Moody (Paul Bearer, Percy Pringle III), Carlos Colon and the celebrity inductee Mr. T. With Moody’s induction being posthumous, it’ll surely add a sombre element to the night, and The Undertaker may even make an appearance, if not being the one inducting Moody. (As of this writing, the people inducting Moody, Lita and Mr. T have yet to be announced.)

With a night that’s sure to be packed full of action, Wrestlemania XXX will be one of the biggest sporting events in years, and is sure to be remembered as one of the greatest.
